So first episode in the chair, there you go, I’m already set in records. But look, on a serious note, a lot of that I think has to do with the guests that I’ll be interviewing today. And that is Christian Woodford. And yeah, look, it’s hard, especially when there is so much potential for it to get better. A lot of people think this industry is all sunshine and rainbows, but look, I can tell you from my experience, it’s not a walk in the park.

It’s not a job you can just walk in and think you can make a quick buck. It requires a lot of love and a lot of passion and more importantly continual involvement to look to get better and better. And this brings me back on to Christian because he’s one of those guys and for a long time he’s put his neck out there and been the leading voice in this area for change.

So I was super excited the opportunity to meet him and see not only is he even his vast knowledge and passion for the fitness industry and it benefited me but I believe it’s going to come with inspiration for fellow health and fitness professionals but also people who have ever doubted themselves and what they do and yeah. So without further ado let’s hear from the man who is changing the game raising raising the standards of the industry, and putting Australia on the map.

Yeah, I’ve already have an hour so I really have an hour so I’ll go I’ll shoot you I’ll shoot you on a little bit you get to know ya I don’t even know what I said. Yes – you know what you’ve come all the way here and my thing is like my Our is communication. And that’s what it is.

If you can’t be a relationship with the client and people are like, “Love me or hate me, but when you meet me, I’m a good person. ” So that’s how, if you want my side, if you want to get better, I want to help. So that’s why I’ve been on this podcast. And also behind me is a Christian Junmian. Why did you ask me just before how old I was? So I look younger, older.

– Yeah, it’s a haircut. – Yeah, That’s okay. – There we go. – I know you said that because when I started this podcast, I could want to meet people who I guess came changes. – Yeah. – No, I mean, walk the walk. – Yeah, well, I’ll talk to talk to you. – Yeah, yeah, yeah. – You’re changing the game. – I like that you were a good man. – So I love you.

– Anytime. – Thank you. So look, it’s the best thing to start is I guess how you got an industry where it all had all began. Oh, it’s a long story. No, I can condense this if I want to. I started 19. So when I started, I’ve always played football and cricket. So different to, well, you’re rugby boy rugby game as I found out. As I found out, we’ll talk about this a little bit later, I’m gonna bring up the guy that Greg’s favourite player in rugby, we’re gonna bring that up later, I’ll talk about that.

I started 19, now I actually, what people don’t understand is very annoying, not annoying, but it’s just that people just wanna put like this side, you’ve had everything easy, you know, you train athletes. Yeah, I didn’t know this didn’t happen overnight. This was actually an accumulation of years of tireless effort putting in the hours and trying to, I’m never gonna mark, no way can it amass this craft, but you can always look to get better.

I don’t know everything, I don’t, I always am saying this at my course. This is what we believe. There’s many ways you can do something in this industry. There’s no, this is the whole issue with the industry. I could go on to the industry. But it’s not black or white. It’s not a right or wrong. There’s many. It’s our many ways lead to Brian. So you know what I mean?

So I think I say my course. I say listen, there’s many ways you can do this. So my way is not the only way I understand this. So I pay my dues, I work my way out. I started actually beg for my first position because as you know, they say you need experience or how the fuck you like experience without it having experience. So I went to a local gym, an athlete in Oakley and I said to the woman, listen, if you give me a shot, I’m not asking for a shot, I’m not asking for a clean equipment, I’m going to help out with the members, so I didn’t know anything, I just want to learn.

I honestly wanted to give you a shot and her name was Billy Parsons and she gave me a first shot, so I owned my career to her because I don’t know what I’ll be without her because I was on a big chain you can pay $200,000 to $53,000 a year. So I was lucky to do that. I started there at 9/8 and then went to Genesis and then finally I started getting a passion for our athletic development introduction so I got a year doing exercise science, a three years for you and honors at the grade in neuroscience in exos neuroscience, I’m Dr.

LNP’s who’s actually doing all the research on concussion at the moment, concussions a big thing. And then from there I started understanding, I tried to cricketer who was in England’s, like he’s one of England’s, I felt England what they call the cricketers. It’s like, I’m exactly, but he was one of the late’s like, I feel England what they call the Korean sum.

It’s like, I can’t remember exactly, but he was one of the late Korean, like through the pathway. – Development. – Yeah, I was not developed, but he was like, can he create? Can he create? – Okay, oh, okay. – He came down the gym, that’s where I first got my taste of athlete development. Like I didn’t, it took me five since years before I started being confident enough to try athlete.

Started doing work experience a lot of other junior late and sub-alike clubs. So I’ll get this out of the street if I’m off the phone and I’ll tell you exactly. So what happened was I was at, I’ll tell you exactly how weird your view is out there so if everyone understands this so you can go through it. I was actually at all these junior late or sub-alike or institute systems so I’ll tell’ll tell you I started off.

It’s actually got all here on my LinkedIn So I started off at I was a string coach the only charges So the only charge the tack cut I was there for one year under my mate who’s a hard-for-ones manager So I’m gonna be experienced there. Yeah, and well, this is all free didn’t get paid for one set just later I’ve done. Yeah, I was a fitness coach that now with victory youth team for one year learn under it like a, I just put my hand out, I said fuck it.

I just want to get this much experience. I want to get my hands dirty. I want as much as possible from different sports. Any time I got a chance, I just put my hand out, I’m just doing it. Put yourself out there. Get some experience. Fitness coach at the Melbourne Victory, because the Physiology teacher was looking for me up with my hand up. Head sport scientist, Vic Metchosocka, National Carnival.

I got paid $300 for a two-week carnival. That’s the first time I got paid. I was a head-strengthening coach at Black Rock Football Club, plus I played, so I get some experience here and get paid a fair bit. Personal training, I was a real person, trying to rehab a coach at Jazz, just for like, whatever, five, six, I think it’s six, seven years. VAS, I was a Victorian Institute sport, Yeah.

just not good, no money in it and they just backstab each other. If young kid like me was coming up, they were polluted, they’re polluted young guys just because there’s no jobs. It’s just Jeremiah in particular who belittle me and I’ll get him back one day so that doesn’t matter. I’m always looking at that. No, no, I’ll get him back mentally. When he gets, well, he didn’t need to do it and that’s what both, I told you this before people, it’s so insecure like because there’s no jobs and all they do is I don’t understand the whole thing because I’m a big personality and I’m confident He thought that like I don’t want you shitty fucking job.

Yeah, but it’s not I’ve made my own thing. I’ve got my own brand I need that shit. So threatened that’s right. That’s right. That’s right So I just take not a good important. I’m back, there’s a little bit of a bear on a bang each other. Fuck that shit. – Yeah. – I see it, no good. S and C coach. Now, this is, before I went to America, I wouldn’t learn more about Grinnan, Mary football.

– Yeah. – I was three-year-old coach for the state team, Victoria Nangles Grinnan team, the state team. I was the sister of three-year-old coach, a straight-knit conditioning coach for Grinnan Australia, so I went with some Grinnan Australia place. Then my and then my biggest thing was got a Maryland University, which was a divan college. That changed my life then because I saw how shit we were in terms of the private sector, what level we need to be at and that’s kind of where it would all start from my friend.

– Well I’m glad you brought Maryland because we are actually gonna be talking about that. – I have any questions you have for me, I’ll tell you where we’re going to be. – I would have too many. – You’re very organized, right? – Yeah, very organized. – I’m like yourself, you know that. – Yeah, very, very rich. – Okay, great. Well, I guess you can’t talk about the challenges, but what would you, I guess, say was the biggest one?

– Bigest challenge. and kind of disrespecting us as professionals. And they called you a little, this word still goes, “Well, fuck it, Eddie, is all you’re a personal trainer. ” Like, this was demeaning us in some way, right? Did you know the demeaning of that? That burnt me for years, man. It’s like, fuck you, motherfucker. Like, who the fuck are you to say this to us?

I love this man. This is a fucking good profession. We get spat on consistently, like, “Hey, with reason there’s some dickheads. Hey, good reason. Cause our answer is a bossy-cats, right? But how fucking dare you experience another fucking love, right? And obviously I get fired up. Of course I do because there’s guys like you who really don’t want to, you care, I can see you come down, look at all these notes.

You know, you show respect, you know? So it just hurts me. It hurt me for years, but I’ll be honest the half the reason I did this is because I did it for the good Pete the good in the industry like yourself and yeah, just said I’ll say that that burning like in here look I’ll be all shut if you were to say it now I’m fucking destroy you what I say destroy I’ll probably go on a rant for a good and I ran right on a rant and I can ask them Jay my tool I see and Jase it’s very hard to stop.

I already laughed the time, so just let him know. Because you don’t disrespect people, you really love what they do. But in this industry, we get pissed on by people who call it, and everyone’s like that, just because of a fit, a small few. – You’re all getting confused. – Ah, exactly, yes. And the whole thing is, no. We have, think about this. You have one body, right?

One body. One fucking body, yeah. We think that it’s okay that not to learn more about anatomy, physiology, bi- mechanics, programming, coaching. One body, you can seriously fuck your body up if you don’t hire the right professional. Yeah, we think it’s okay to hire idiots on social media who might look good, take a good photo, dog the image, take an excellent supplements steroids and then you think that just because they look that way, that gives them the knowledge, the professionalism to call themselves a trainer and coach.

Fuck off, no, that’s not right. And these people use the industry and they fuck up the rest of us and I’m sick of it and it burns me consistently and I will not stop. And the minute that fire leaves here, I will quit. Because I will not be in something I do not love. I’ve never done it, I never will. And that’s what happened was in Genesis, the biggest thing for me, you asked me the challenge, is sticking at it.

It’s hard. You think you’re gonna make people think that it’s gonna be surgery in four. I’m like 100 again. No, you are not. You are not. Please don’t think that. I want a surgery in four, right? If you want surgery in four, I’m gonna a hundred game. No, you are not. Yeah, you are not. Please don’t think that and I want to say three four, right? If I’m saying three four I’m gonna get in contact understand more about it go to Woodford SSA.

com because the boys deal with it. No, they yeah, but I’m telling you something. You want to say? Yeah, if you fucking did that get the fuck out of it. I tell people I personally I’m pretty much a little asshole, but I don’t care about it. If you want to do it with, as is, sort of an expensive compared to some other ones, but as is, what I say is, we price it where we want the real people to learn, right?

– Yeah. – Oh, be honest with you, so do you fucking lace and everyone pulls out the price. I do not give a fuck. If you don’t want to come in from price, if you don’t want to invest in your crowd, if you invest in a half million dollars, right? If you’re not invest, you should not be in this industry, right? You should be in this industry. If you’re already invest, you know, that’s how I got better because I invest in, I go to America every second year, every year to learn to get better.

– Three hours a day, come on. – Exactly. – Yeah. – Exactly, but that’s how you get better to knowledge. Knowledge is power. The other people think that differently is like, I’ll run a little bit more about marketing, which yeah, that’s one facet. But if you’re more worried about marketing, then getting results you can’t even go anywhere. That’s the issue of industry.

So my thing, you asked me how big this challenge was. I’m so, as you can see, so passionate about what I do and how much I love this industry and how much I want to help develop it. And my personality is the reason why I like this is because I really love love and want to get more satisfaction out watching other people develop. I promote my good mate around the corner and I was drink cold to Jamie Spitt.

I’d promote them. But if you want to get me gone because that’s just my passion, it’s not aggressive because that’s all it’s very, it’s a make my passion. You cannot change the status quo unless you’re willing to actually come out and say something bad. I’m willing to do it, I’m it’s. And for me, I don’t care about, I told you, I don’t care if you want, and you have to have some on that.

You have to, to any people who care about what people think, I just don’t give a fuck. I live a life that’s so cool, like I just don’t care. I walk that street and they’re just like, well, when I was 25 when I stayed in the bank, a little bit I care, the minute I stopped caring was pretty much the day I just became very successful as I did this one of these.

Fair enough that the hardest thing is just stick at it. Stick at it. But watch all these unpassed people come in and try to make a quick buck and move out of here. – Come go ahead. – Oh, and I’ll be honest, I’ve had a kid sit here and he said this and they came out and I said, “Listen, what do you want to do when you send this to me? ” And this is the worst thing you can say to me.

“Oh, I think I want to do it part time and then do a proper job. ” I said, “What? ” And he should have said that. “Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, tell me. ” “I’m sick. ” “Well, I told him to get the fuck out. ” I said, “This is more property than the fuck out. ” And maybe you’re fucking showing me some respect that I’ve done. I’ve tried to build up. So you fuck off.

And that was pretty much it. I’m pretty much it. I’m hellish, man. I’m sticking up. I feel I am the voice and you might not like this, everyone. And if you don’t, stick it up your ass because I didn’t give a fuck. I’m going to say things that you’re not. That’s how it is. And I built a profile of that because I really give a fuck. I will sacrifice my own fucking up.

This might sound be crazy. I’m here. But I will sacrifice my own life if I know that I could, this is my, and if you read my shit, I told you that legacy, right? Legacy is not about how much money you make, it’s how many lives you can change. If I could leave this initiative, best that, and I found it, that’s my legacy. So I’m going to sacrifice my own life.

It’s how I came here to do it in a genuine model. And he said, I could make this industry the best industry you ever dream of, but unfortunately you’d have to be a sacrifice what I do. Yeah, I’m just like that’s what I said. Yeah, like I said that guy enough you dreams I know but I’m not married that any kids now if I had kids are probably a bit different No, you never know you never know what I’m saying is yeah, just say I love this issue That was my arm if you have a vision in life and we talk about I’ve talked about to a lot of my guys is finding your why what Makes you wake up every day and that burning fighting here.

I’m a serious find it But so many people go through life unhappy with their job. They’re fucking quid Don’t have the work. They’re not fucking put it down. You’re fucking it Do something with love and passion if you’re authentic people like you This is who I am I’m not pretending to be someone else you seek fakes and miles I’ve seen all the time. This is who I am as a person I love what I do I’m passion I just want I just want to help and my thing is I will not ever look back my life and what I want to do people over the breaks Oh, I couldn’t show what up.

No, you didn’t do it move on I’m gonna be not gonna be one of those people. I’m not doing anything. I said I’m playing a dude. I told everyone seven years ago in September 14th, this year, September 13th or 14th. Yes, September 13th, 2012. I said seven years ago in September 13th, took this year. Then I would do, I would change the game, look back at my previous videos, everything I said, I backed up.

I keep backing up. I keep backing up, there’s nothing, people hate it on the meat of the start, they’ve been saying a lot of love, which is a bit weird, ’cause they’re gonna hate the start, so it’s cool, but to watch guys, you come through, say that, I appreciate it, so it’s a bit weird. – I’ve already brought that up, ’cause one thing I actually listened to in some of your old, like some things since 2012, and I mentioned so it’d be a bit of the back end of the industry.

– Well, yes. – Actually, it’s funny you say that, ’cause there’s a quick, there’s a quick hit. – There that because there’s a clip that’s the clip. So I said that what I felt like was every day I woke up. I was scared. So someone said, well, you scared fuck you. I was scared. Man, do you understand at the time, man? I went after the thing was at the time I was angry.

I felt crossfit was the latest craze. You know that the ebbs and flames. Now, crossfit’s a sport now, which Hey, you’re a good crossFit. Oh, aren’t you? Do you want the fuck you want to argue with shit? But here’s the thing. Do not make two accusations that CrossFit used to say, we can, we developed athletes all the shit. So I’m sitting here going on, I’ve given up a whole fucking law for this and these guys are going to say that and I said, you know what, fuck it.

I don don’t know if any. That was the data to extend. I looked at, and I just looked at myself in the mirror and say, “I am vigilant, Batman is a vigilante. ” Even though I don’t wear a K-boy, but I said, “You know what? I’m going to, every day I wake up, I say, “I’m Christian Woodford, I’m going to chase you. ” I used to always say that. It’s called affirmations, it’s called visualization, it’s called fucking, “I dread everything.

” You might not believe this, but I literally have manifested my dreams of reality. I dread that. It’s called affirmations. It’s called visualization. It’s called fucking, I dread everything. You might not believe this, but I literally have manifested my dreams of reality. I dreamt of everything. I dreamt of trained professional athletes, semi-pro, amateur, week and worry.

I literally manifested literally everything, professional journeys, all randomized set up. I literally manifested being a world leader, Australian leader, coming out and saying things and all. I honestly I also turned out before it happened. So if you read the book The Secret by Rhonda whatever, read it because I actually honestly believe that 100%.

I’ve visualised everything about what happens and it happens. So people say, “How do you feel about it? ” I said, “Well, fuck, next goal. ” So that’s it. No, that was back then I believed in it and I still believe in it today. So yeah 2012 since I was probably 2005 for a long time. Yeah, yeah, I’m an old man. I’m 33 on time, but I feel I feel I’m It is training though like it is training how I am because it’s me but I love I love what I do.

I still love it. That’s it. But people I Talk to you about to you about the passion they want. People just lose passion. I can stay and make me find it. A little bit of a lot of people get real. I actually like that when people say that you reignite my passion. I try to get so many messages from not just straight in these days, the world. That’s what I’m doing.

I think DeFranco would have helped a lot. – Yeah, yeah. – Of these big things. – Yeah, these big things. So from the world, so you inspire me to do this that, hey. – I think the subscribers were passionate first and the co-host. – Yeah, so everyone out there, you don’t know. So this is our model. So he was my idol, so looking back at it. In Australia, you do sport science, but there’s, you know, there was only one way of pro sport and there was minimal jobs.

And I thought, I didn’t want to go pro sport, I always want to take my own Brand and what happened was oh excuse me. I don’t see you No, okay, thank God now so you look here. I want to think mr. His mother came up to me at the years and said thank you for what you’ve done for my son. So I want to show I think it was episode 194 Industrial String Oak Unbelievable, the best coach. When you’re doing some science Australia there’s no line at the end of the tunnel because it’s like preschool or nothing. said, I don’t want to do that. I want to work on the private sector, but I want to develop as I develop them.

And so many people said it can’t be done. There’s no industry. There’s no industry. There’s no industry. There’s no industry. They kept hearing the same bullshit. They just always say, well, fuck you. If I don’t have that same fucking attitude, nothing get done. Why can’t I just say, fuck it. I’ll be the man. I’ll fucking do it. I waited so fucking long.

I said, one day I won’t go over. I over the man, I’m fucking over the man, I’m fucking doing it. And I just did it. And you know what that shows? Take fun of your capabilities, don’t wait for so fucking to do it. Successful people take a meeting and ask, I said, fuck this shit, I’m gonna do it myself and I did it. And there’s the improved. Don’t fucking wait, take it by the balls and do yourself.

And meeting your fucking little someone else do it. I’m gonna wait, but you know what, I see myself and people always gonna be like, you know what, you know, your hays and lovers, who gives a fuck? I said to myself, you know what? I said, I’m gonna do it myself. You’re gonna lie, you hate me, fucking. That’s what I became successful because I always just became what people thought.

And I said, one day I went, fuck, and I’ll do it myself. And, hey, this is what we are. And I, you know what, I’m living on my dream every day. Isn’t, uh, frustrating something else yet? I said, yeah, it’s all perfect. – Yeah. – Got a lot of people, but how they could put people like you? Smart educated private school papers, you know, if you want to use brick, you know, brick.

– Yeah. – Brick says private school board, right? This is a brick. And he goes to Irving Newton College. So I just give him shit. He just, he’s just a pro, I give him a shit. He goes in private school. The brick is my favorite because he always did The what kind of prize school goes from prepped to year 12. Did you get a pro school? Yeah, I was one of those.

Oh brick you two got a made-bin. She’s a cross. Oh, he’s a guy’s you know, I used to be a ship and he’s he’s working. He’s really good. He knows he’s a great kid. He I’m fantastic. He’s rude. He is the heart of a great kid. He’s a great kid. He’s a great kid. He’s a great kid. I’ve got a strong but you understand what I’m saying? People, but I don’t give a fuck.

I don’t keep these, he’s great. He’s a good person and that’s why I care. He’s a great coach. He’s getting better. So shout out to you, Chris, to Brent. – Yeah. – Brent, both of you two are weird though. Prefer, you’re new to the prefer, you’re 12, Jesus Christ. – That’s it. Now, actually, now I guess we did talk about America, but I once typically focus on your experience in the Maryland University.

So can you first talk about how an opportunity can abound? I guess your experience. Because yeah, I guess one of the big things I’ve picked up. I guess it’s following you. How have you followed us for? I’m probably a number of years now. Did you fight because of Shen or? I guess I played more attention, but I really followed Shen or… Yeah, I was thinking in the industry, follow.

Yeah, I guess the big thing I followed and got out is I noticed a lot of the things from America, particularly against the college system, you’ve taken… Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, yeah, I guess I had a little start, like I don’t get to Maryland. Because you’re an assistant, a straight-nishing coach? Yeah, so what happened was, I wasn’t very, very intelligent.

I hated people. I was just done, you know. I’ll be on a show then. I’ll be completely on a show. I was… I reckon that that didn’t kill me more because I started going… I started fucked. I started going, there’s no jobs. No one really got, like there was no real, no, definitely don’t buy until here. Because if our mainstream sports is not, it’s in endurance, people think it’s in endurance baseball running.

They’re football running before it’s going to run, you know, run. So I was kind of darted there. But I was like, “Really? Damn, I was just depressed. ” I really long, I mean, there was something out there, right? And it just turns out this is our life works when you open yourself up. Yeah, what happened was there’s a water pipeline that was taping and you said why don’t you go to collegiate system?

So I started looking into it and what happened was I made a short list of Did want to use and if you’re ever gonna go to America I just I had a passion to love for neuromuscular adaptation tracing neurological adaptation string training But also have developed strip power speed if you look at any a lactact sport the biggest a lactate ATP water on it ATP PC sport Is good on so mirror football they call it.

So I said I want to learn off these guys. They’re the best at it. Yeah, the whole system the process was literally I literally went for so many you use ecologists. So you use ecologists but I literally heard back from probably I went for 100 and I heard back from maybe 20. I had those 20 maybe five rinses out. I had those five really interested in those three.

One was really interested in it and I put all my eggs in my basket. I was barreled. And I got there, I got an internship there, which is hard to do because why would they take ask when there’s so many other Americans did a job. So I went there, I was there for four, three and a big month. – Okay, so it was a big, considerable time. – Oh yeah, got ya, yeah, it was unbelievable, the best time of my life.

I was exposed to such a high level coaching. I was actually, I coached this is all self-funded. Yeah, God. Yeah. I know. I didn’t know self-funded. God. Yeah. So this is kids these days expect fucking put their head in the different idiot. What is your point of difference? I’m all put at least that was my point of view. Just get out of there. And now week, third week, I was in, and the head guy came up with coach Wilson and he said, “You can coach because you’re good enough to be here.

You’ve got to start playing with yourself. You can do this. ” And I was like, “Oh, shit, I can roll with these guys. ” And I remember we had NFL player Donald Brown who was at the time in the Indianapolis Colts. And I took him through the hole for three, four days, I was taking him to his paid work in county state lifting. And he was like, you’re really good, make a coach here.

You got a background in your knowledge in your application. And he was like, oh, fuck man, these guys don’t want a few million. I’m fucking wrong with them. I can do anything here. And that’s kind of a build up. And then that’s a conference. Because my thought process was this. If I can expose what high level education, educated, polite content is, more people wins, different wins. My thing is about legacy. The more people I can help, the more people I can expose to other content, everyone wins. And it just so happens, I took responsibility on myself, ’cause I thought what no one else was doing it.

And I said, “I’ll be the man here, I’ll put my hand up, I’ll take this role on by myself. ” ‘Cause no, I was gonna do it, I was gonna do it wrong with it. You’re gonna do a course on that, I want it on be successful.

I don’t want it on the front end, you be like, people, church, for the third, for the third, and three, four, without any fucking care, it’s money.
