Revolution Personal Training sits at 17A Market Street, South Melbourne, inside a small triangle with Albert Park to the south, Port Melbourne to the west, and Southbank and the CBD to the north. If you live or work in the inner south, the question is usually not whether the studio is good. It is whether the trip fits a working week.

This guide answers that directly: how long the trip takes from each direction, what parking is like on Market Street, which time slots suit a city job, and what to do if getting to a studio at all is the part that falls over.

Where is Revolution Personal Training in South Melbourne?

Revolution Personal Training is at 17A Market Street, South Melbourne VIC 3205, one block back from Clarendon Street and a short walk from South Melbourne Market. The studio is open Monday to Thursday from 5:30am to 8:15pm, Friday from 5:30am to 7:00pm and Saturday from 7:00am to 1:00pm, and it is closed on Sunday. You can reach the team on 1300 362 311.

Being a block off the main strip helps. Clarendon Street carries the trams and most of the traffic, so the studio is easy to reach without sitting in it.

How long does it take to get there from Albert Park, Port Melbourne or the CBD?

For most people it is a ten to fifteen minute trip from any of the three. Albert Park is close enough to walk in about fifteen minutes or ride in five. Port Melbourne is a short tram trip or roughly a ten minute drive outside peak hour. From the CBD, the Clarendon Street trams run straight down into South Melbourne, so the studio is around ten to fifteen minutes from the southern end of the city.

The number that matters is total door to door time, not distance. Ride in from Middle Park or tram in from Southbank and the whole visit costs about half an hour of travel, which is the range where a training habit survives a busy month.

Is there parking near the studio?

Yes, although it is metered street parking rather than a dedicated car park, and most of the bays around Market Street and the surrounding blocks are short stay. A one or two hour bay is comfortably long enough for a session and a shower. Check the signs on the day, because restrictions change street by street and are tighter around South Melbourne Market trading days.

Many members avoid the question entirely. From Albert Park, Middle Park or Port Melbourne, riding in is usually faster than driving once you count the circling, and there is bike parking near the door.

What are the best training times if you work in the CBD?

Before work and straight after work are the two busiest windows, and both of them run long here. The studio opens at 5:30am Monday to Friday, so a 6:00am start has you showered and at a desk in the city well before 9:00am. Monday to Thursday it stays open until 8:15pm, which covers anyone who cannot get out of the office before six. The middle of the day is the quietest stretch and the easiest time to get the slot you want.

Saturday mornings from 7:00am to 1:00pm are the other option if your weekdays are unpredictable. Our small group training timetable is built around the same peak windows, so there is usually a session running when you can get there.

Is it worth travelling from Port Melbourne or Albert Park to train in South Melbourne?

It is worth it when the extra few minutes buys you coaching you would not get closer to home, and not worth it much beyond that. The best gym is the one you actually attend, so a twenty five minute trip each way will beat you eventually, no matter how good the programming is. Ten to fifteen minutes is the range where people stay consistent for years, and that covers Albert Park, Middle Park, Port Melbourne, Southbank and most of the CBD.

What you are travelling for is supervision. In one on one personal training a coach watches every set and adjusts the week as your life changes, and in semi private training you get your own program with a coach running a handful of people at once. Neither exists in a swipe card gym.

What if you cannot get to the studio at all?

Then the training comes to you. We run mobile personal training across bayside Melbourne, with trainer Michael Dover coaching clients in their own homes, garages, apartment gyms and local parks. It suits parents with small children at home, people who already have equipment sitting unused, and anyone whose week simply will not absorb a commute in either direction.

Sessions are programmed the same way they would be in the studio, using whatever equipment is on hand. Read how it works on our mobile personal training page. Plenty of members use it as a stopgap through a busy period rather than permanently.

Which type of training suits someone commuting in?

If your schedule is tight but predictable, book a standing one on one appointment at the same time each week, because a fixed booking is the thing most likely to survive a difficult month. If your week moves around, small group and semi private sessions give you far more slots to choose from at a lower weekly cost. A lot of members run a combination: one coached session a week that never moves, plus two group sessions they drop into when the day allows.

On price, group and small group training runs from $49 to $89 a week, semi private from $65 to $199 a week, and one on one from $159 to $339 a week, with casual sessions and packs also available. Our 2026 pricing guide breaks down each range.

Can you train outdoors around Albert Park Lake?

You can, and many of our members use the lake as their easy day rather than their training day. The loop is a little under five kilometres, which makes it a good walk, jog or ride on the days between sessions, and it is close enough to the studio to build into a weekly routine. The strength work still happens indoors, because progress comes from loading a barbell accurately and tracking it week to week, and that is difficult to do on a footpath.

Two or three strength sessions in the studio, one or two easy laps of the lake, and a rest day is a week most people in the inner south can sustain for years.

Do you work with people managing an injury or a health condition?

Yes. Alongside personal training we run exercise physiology with accredited exercise physiologists, which is the right starting point if you are managing an injury, a chronic condition, a recent surgery or a referral from your GP. Sessions can be claimed through Medicare chronic disease management plans, NDIS, WorkCover, TAC, DVA and most private health extras, depending on your situation.

An initial 60 minute consultation is $176, with follow up appointments at $98, $132 or $176 depending on length. Many people start in exercise physiology, get cleared and confident, then move across to personal training once the problem settles.

How do you choose between all of this if you are new to it?

Start by being honest about your week rather than your goals. Pick the two or three time slots you could realistically attend in a bad week, not a good one, and then choose the service that has sessions running in those windows. Almost everyone who stops training stops because of scheduling, not because of the program, so building the week first and the training around it is the order that works.

Our South Melbourne questions answered post covers what a first session involves and what to expect in the first few weeks.

Getting started from Albert Park, Port Melbourne or the CBD

The most useful way to find out whether the trip works is to run it for three weeks rather than reason about it. Our 21 Day Jump Start Program is $327 as a one off and includes one on one personal training, semi private sessions and unlimited group training, so you can test every time slot and format before committing to anything ongoing. After the 21 days, members continue on Bronze at $109 per week or Silver at $149 per week.

If the commute suits you, it will be obvious within a fortnight. If it does not, mobile training across bayside Melbourne is the alternative. Come and see us at 17A Market Street, South Melbourne, call 1300 362 311, or start with the 21 Day Jump Start Program.
