Olympic Weightlifting Course in Melbourne

Olympic weightlifting is one of the most rewarding — and most technical — ways to build real strength, speed and power. At Revolution Personal Training in South Melbourne, our coaches teach you the two classical lifts, the snatch and the clean and jerk, properly from day one, so you build confidence and capability without picking up bad habits. Whether you are a complete beginner or an athlete looking to add explosiveness to your sport, we will meet you where you are.

The 8-week Olympic Weightlifting Fundamentals Course

Our flagship entry point is an eight-week Olympic Weightlifting Fundamentals Course, run from our gym in South Melbourne.

  • Expertly designed, progressive program that builds your movement capability week by week

  • Two coached sessions per week

  • Small course numbers (max 6) for genuine, individual attention

  • Held here at our gym in South Melbourne

  • Course cost $449 for the full eight weeks

This is a technique-orientated course; focusing on mobility before lifting, it will help you create the speed, power and fluidity that correlate directly into sporting performance. We build your confidence in the snatch and the clean and jerk, as well as the range of accessory lifts that support these two primary movements. Our weightlifting coach David Kinsella, a Level 2 Strength and Power Weightlifting coach, will be picky on technique, dishing out the mobility and activation drills that have you improving rapidly and lifting both safely and effectively.

The eight-week program finishes with a training session at TG Strength in Cheltenham under elite-level coach Lester Ho, who works closely with the team at Revolution Personal Training. In this final session, if you choose, you will have the opportunity to build up to and post your heaviest lift in a supportive, well-coached, safe environment.

What you will learn

  • The snatch — from set-up and positions through to receiving the bar overhead

  • The clean and jerk — pulls, front rack and the jerk overhead

  • Key accessory and positional drills that fast-track your technique

  • Mobility and activation work to unlock the positions the lifts demand

  • How to warm up, structure a session and progress load safely

Frequently asked questions

Do I need any experience to start?
No. The Fundamentals Course is designed for beginners and assumes no prior weightlifting experience. We start with positions and technique before adding load.

What is the difference between Olympic weightlifting and powerlifting?
Olympic weightlifting is the snatch and the clean and jerk, explosive full-body lifts. Powerlifting is the squat, bench press and deadlift, focused on maximal strength. We run a powerlifting course too.

Do I need weightlifting shoes or my own equipment?
Not to begin. We provide everything you need for the course. As you progress, many lifters choose to invest in weightlifting shoes, and our coaches are happy to advise.

Is Olympic weightlifting safe for beginners?
Yes, when it is coached. The whole point of a fundamentals course is to learn correct technique in a controlled, progressive way with a qualified coach watching every rep.
